ZWEIGART Fabric

AIDA-FABRIC  •  BELFAST LINEN  •  CASHEL LINEN  •  CORK LINEN  •  LAGUNA

Zweigart is a well-known German company which, since 1877, has produced a wide range of high-quality needlework fabrics. The variety of colors, weaves and designs inspire creativity and save time.

Zweigart has the right fabric for any embroidery technique: Cross stitch, Hardanger, pulled-thread, hemstitch, whitework and many more. Zweigart products are renowned worldwide for their high quality.

Needlework is a breeze when using Aida fabric, the beauty of the linen fabrics Cashel, Belfast and Dublin is almost unmatched, the accurate even weave and colour selection of our Lugana, Bellana, Davosa and Linda fabrics is legendary, the wide range of canvases is unique and the dotted table damask is a true classic. Discover this wonderful world.

Needlework Fabrics - Imperative for a good needlework fabric is its even weave. Therefore, Zweigart uses only the highest quality raw materials and state-of-the-art precision weaving so that you can achieve best results when embroidering on our fabrics. The wide range of Zweigart fabrics, colours and widths wins the heart of every hobby needlework artist. And with colourfast, easy-care quality Zweigart also warms their hearts after each laundering.

Aida is the classic needlework fabric. Since it was invented in 1907, Aida stands for quick and easy embroidery with cross stitch. This special weave forms clearly recognisable squares that make child’s play out of stitch counting. With 24.5 to 70 stitches per 10 cm (4”), Aida offers everything that children, beginners and experts require and enjoy.

Linen is a fabric you can feel. Hardly any other cloth can be so easily identified by touch: the smooth surface, cool hand and fine, irregular structure of the flax fibres are unmistakably, typically linen! Zweigart weaves linen fabrics with a thread count of 55 to 100 threads/cm and are hence able to offer a broad range of tough to almost transparent fabrics.

Even-weave Needlework Fabrics - Fabrics woven exactly on the square are an absolute must for counted embroidery. Those seeking a reliable fabric will find it amongst Zweigart even-weave needlework fabrics, as their warp and weft thread count is always exactly the same. Their cotton and cotton- modal weaves with thread counts ranging from 56 to 126 per 10 cm (14 to 32 per inch) are made of smooth, even, multiple-ply threads in plain and Panama weaves and are available in a wide selection of colours and widths.

Beginner suggestions: Although other fabrics are not difficult to stitch on, aida is the best choice for a first project. Aida 14 (14 stitches per inch) is the most commonly used aida. Aida 8 or 11 would be a good choice for teaching children.

Belfast Linen is usually stitched over 2 threads. So even though Belfast Linen is 32 threads per inch, it stitches as though it where 16 count. Your pattern may say 'over two' (that is, stitch over 2 threads); or '2 by 2', or '2 over 2' (that is, stitch 2 strands of floss over 2 fabric threads).

The linen threads in Belfast Linen are intentionally uneven in diameter. In an unstitched piece of fabric this variation may look like flaws, but it is what gives your finished piece personality.

Beginner suggestions: Although not difficult to stitch on, linen fabric is usually not recommended for your first project (aida would be the best choice for a first project).
